BELGRADE, March 04, /ITAR-TASS/. More than 500 people demonstrated outside the Russian embassy in Belgrade to voice their support for Russia’s policy towards Ukraine.

The participants in the rally organized by the Serbian public movement Dveri (The Doors) handed over a petition to the Russian embassy in which they voiced their full support for Russia’s efforts to end discrimination of the Russian-speaking population in Ukraine and avert the approaching humanitarian disaster.

“Certain groups have seized the power in Ukraine by force with an aim to make Ukraine a NATO member. They resort to open manifestations of Nazism and fascism to which Russia is giving a wise, staunch and resolute rebuff. The entire Serbian nation is watching this struggle in hope that the Russian people will win,” the petition said.

Pro-Russian rallies have also been held in Montenegro and the Serb Republic (Republika Srpska) in Bosnia and Herzegovina.

In the meantime, well-known Serbian Film Director Emir Kusturica told Itar-Tass on Monday that Russia should protect ethnic Russians residing in Ukraine and save the country from a disaster.

“Unfortunately, Ukraine is following the Yugoslav scenario, and I regret it. I see the same kind of catastrophe. I think that Russia should protect ethnic Russians residing in Ukraine,” Kusturica said.

Kusturica and his “The No Smoking Orchestra” gave a guest performance in Samara, the Volga region, on Monday. The musicians devoted one of their songs to Russians residing in Ukraine.

The group is planning to go on a guest tour to Ukraine to support its Russian-speaking population.
