TBILISI, September 4 (Itar-Tass) - Prime Minister Bidzina Ivanishvili left open the possibility that Georgia might join the Eurasian Union in the future.
Speaking at a news conference on Wednesday, Ivanishvili said: “I'm studying this issue [of joining the Eurasian Union]. At the moment there is no other position. If we see any benefit for Georgia’s strategy may as well.”
The previous authorities said there was no alternative to European integration. “For members of the Eastern Partnership there is no alternative but to integrate into Europe,” President Mikhail Saakashvili said earlier.
“The European Union is the future and the Eurasian Union is the past that is why it doesn’t prove its value,” Saakashvili said.
